New to the Game

Postby Teh_Az » Thu Apr 01, 2010 3:03 pm

Hi, I'm new to the game. I've finally found a game, which in the past I have thought of playing, that plays a lot like Dwarf Fortress on an individual and community level. This is a very fun place and from the looks of it, already quite balanced with its fair share of anarchists, moderates, and law abiding denizens. I'm really hoping to see this game mature long enough to actually develop its own complex social institutions created by the players themselves, things that mirror reality, a very interesting sociology experiment. It would even be cool if a university actually funded this to use the players as quinea pigs,
unknowingly of course, for sociology experiments.

I'm sure everyone's heard of the Griefer incident in World of Warcraft that some people thought would be great to recreate again just to study the patterns and sociological effects epidemics would have on real people.

Other than that, I do hope to do some very good gaming here. I've found my self a place of solitude, I don't know how wise that is because people tend to murder others for the lulz here, but I hope I'll do fine. If worse comes to worse, I could always try to offer tribute, if not run away to eventually die.

I've decided on living alone because the hermit life is intriguing to me, like Alexander Supertramp. I also like to maybe start a group where their life as a community mirrors that of the Rangers Aragorn was a part of in Middle Earth. And since this game is based on predominantly European mythologies, I don't see how far off that is. Maybe you guys could join my, I don't know. It would be pretty cool though if people could like write books or memorize epics here, make it a skill called Bardic Tradition. Doing it regenerates stamina for everyone who could hear it.

I think the games social aspect is full of potential thus I will live the life of a hermit and not be part of any of that. Is that what you're saying? Damn hermits.

What better place to live out the fantasy of being a hermit than in a place replete with social aspects, yet do not require it. Some people like to roleplay or join in a game to be a part of something. I just like this because I like the idea of getting something on your own. I'm not saying I will shun socializing, I will say that this is my hermit cave from reality, for meditation and soul searching; since obviously I'd die if I did this in the real world.

Do you know that you can make parchments and write on them?

only in this game can you really test what people would do when somethin big or bad happens, in other games you respawn, brush it off and move on, here you can die permanently.

IBg fan of that, which is why hermitage is appealing. If no one knows where I live or if I exist, I live longer.

actually the opposite is true. random spawns in the Wilderness mean that a crazy axe wielding russian could spawn next to you and cut your head off before you even know he's there. actually it's quite common to get killed by people who random stumble upon camps. The best way to stay alive is in a big village insie of a pallisade.

Hey, it doesn't take a village to build a palisade, and not all villages have good fighters to defend - take that NB incident.
That means you can build the palisade around your own farm yourself, no axe-wielding russian can break that.
