What is the toughest animal you taken down melee only?

No water tricks, no animal traps, no long range call down thunder while behind palisade, I mean up front slug-fest.

For me it's a lvl V bear, trying to find a lvl VI one for the next step upwards.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

A swarm of ants.
Back when they did lethal damage.

Yeah, I hate the combat system. All my LP's from building and farming.
Surprise.

Same with Peter, except when we had the old combat system.
Because level 1 boars were weaker than the ants in my opinion.

I can kill level 7 boars and level 8 foxes but I take too many hits to be worth it because I have to dash up IPs. No bears yet, I haven't met any lower leveled ones.

I have 80 melee and 40 unarmed. I wish I would have just focused on unarmed because running out of IP is what stops me from killing higher leveled things. How are you fighting yours?

Does just taking hits while slinging stones count? I'm pretty sure I took a level 3 fox down that way.

Other than that, this map, yeah, pretty much ants.

Waaay back under the old combat system on the first world I once punched out a bar in the Sinister Forest outside of Bottleneck, though.

I basically use death or glory to rack up IP up to 16 before I knock twice and valorous strike. If it's a bear though, I use dash and maneuver oaken stance/blood lust to keep my defense and switch to shield so I lose less defense while I get IP for advantage so my defense won't go don't so much especially after a bite attack. Then I do the same thing above.

Ah, I've never tried using death or glory.

What I've been doing is starting off with shield so their first full bar attack doesn't hurt as bad, and then use combat meditation with either dash or charge depending on how strong whatever I'm fighting is. Against boars I usually toss in Evil Eyes while I'm getting IPs so I don't get disadvantaged, so it takes a while. Then whenever I get the number of IPs I think I need, I use sting and flex to drop their defense low enough for valorous strike.

Weaker animals I just punch and finish with sting.

I'll try using knock though, it seems like it'd be quicker than what I'm doing now.

You don't start off with Death or Glory actually, you start off with shield to reduce defense meter damage. Then switch to death or glory. Rack up 16 intiative, use opportunity knock twice, then a valorous strike. Combat meditation may not be the best choice for this type of combat as it slow gives them advantage.

Killed a level 9 bear.
