Hope HnH will be free forever

Postby Riou1231 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:05 am

Right now HnH is probably the only game I enjoy and the only great game I can play without needing to pay money just to enjoy most of the features, I'm hoping HnH will be free-to-play forever, what are your thoughts about this?

if it will remain a game without rule and with so many deads and trolls, is better if it remain free, becouse i don't know so many people that wanna pay to die soon. XD

I don't know how well H&H would do as a paid game, even long in the future when it's fully developed and released. On the other hand being free could be tough. As most free games use cash shops and such to support themselves. However I can't really think of anything H&H could put in a cash shop without totally ruining the way the game works, unless they added some simple +stat/skill clothing for looks, which I don't think would sell nearly well enough to support the game.

Yep, right now griefers and killers are running around like madmen, good thing I have Rage, and a pointy sword, and a shield. If anybody tried to kill me they might find the tables turn.

Perhaps some kind of donator status could be introduced. It might not provide much beyond a fanciful name (in game and in forums?), but ego is a powerful thing!

I'd happily pay a one-off fee to play a released game, though. But I doubt that a one-off can sustain this, what with all the maintenance costs and whatnot. In fact, depending on how often the game gets updates, I might even be tempted to pay a monthly subscription, if it's reasonable enough.
Some people are just naturally nice. I should know, I have two of them rotting under my bed.

I totally agree, but I also keep in mind that this game is still considered "alpha".
So yes, as it is now I wouldn't pay for it because of the flaws it has.
On the other hand, I would (will) make a donation as that is an option I have, not a forced payment.
The problem with a lot of developpers is that they charge money for something I consider alpha or bèta stage, often because they need the money to continue development, but that isn't really the customer's problem.

Also, I always look at two factors when I rate a game (and decide if the money is worth it): How much fun is it and how long does it entertain me?
For example; a big-budget first person shooter generally costs €50 or even more, but most of those fail to give me over 20h of entertainment.
When I look at H&H, there are few games I enjoyed this much (and I played a LOT ^^) and there are also not many games that had my interest for that amount time (even tho I'm fairly new to H&H).
Conclusion, I'll certainly make a nice donation, as the game deserves that, but I wouldn't pay the same amount of money to buy it in it's current state.

EDIT: I hope that didn't bore people to the point that they'll come kill me and steal my stuff :-/
