Unusual Bear Activities

So... there I was in my boat, plugging away at this level 10 bear, right, and just when it gets down to about where it should frenzy at me... it decides instead to run away. Being in a boat, I knew it would be too much of a pain to chase it down and whack it for the final blows, so I just watched my dinner run away. Run away bear, run away.

On a different note, has anyone other than me tried to kill a deer by nuking it's HHP? doesn't work. It's healing heals it's HHP as well. *sigh* just got that much harder for the poor little woodsman. Anyone have any stumps needing removal? It appears I have to grind up my unarmed and melee now.

It is perhaps now that you do more damage to the bear and this makes it run.

Often if the bear runs from the shore it will in a few moments return. It is worth waiting in this case, and I am told it is safe to go ashore at this time.

To kill the deer you must do more than 100 points of damage with each turn.

Animals do not have hhp.

Well, good to know! I'm sure this was asked a long time ago, and makes me sound like a twat for asking, but what's the little yellow number that flashes above the red one when you peg animals for damage? If they HAD hhp, would that be the amount dealt to it?
