dwarf settlement

I've been tossing around the idea of making a settlement primarily underground in a network of tunnels and dug out rooms. Is there anyone that would be interested in joining me in this endeavor?

I have considered this. What I would need though, for this to work for me, is a better, more reliable light source. I do most of the mining for our tiny enclave and getting back to the mine entrance can be difficult when the candle goes out. I suppose I could just time a candle and then replace it when it is low.
It would be grand to have a way to fashion glowing stones.
Then, with a bit of work, we could quote lord of the rings - "..and they call this a mine!"

Hearthfires: unlimited light source.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

A single wrought bar can buy a lot of candles. Food too. And seeing how close your ironworks would be to ore, you'd be more productive than any other iron producer, so you could probably get away with trading for all surface goods and having nothing but the mine entrance on the surface. A lone mine entrance would be fairly hard to find, I think.

I'd consider tossing in an alt for the project.
Sounds like fun.
Just make sure it's waaaaaayyyy out in mordor somewhere, though. Maybe on the island.
Surprise.

I'd join. I still haven't learned my lesson about living in mines :P

you might want to wait until AFTER cave-ins have been implemented to do most of your designs though ;)

Having some sort of hole/atrium in there usable for farming/trees would make me move into a cave :D
