Consider the length of the day

Postby Peter » Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:30 am

I was originally going to put this in the Critiques section, but I don't think that this is developed enough to really suggest yet.

My thought is thus: in the current system, there are eight RL hours in each H&H day. This is in rough numbers a good amount; however, I would ask that this be reconsidered. I say this because I am only able to play the game at around 6:30 PM Pacific to 10:30 PM Pacific. This time period correlates EXACTLY with nightfall; I quit juuust as it starts to get light enough to work without a torch.

What I would suggest instead is 7, 9, or 10 RL hours to H&H day. In this way, there will be no lockstep problem.

I would not ask this to be taken lightly, because I know that the length of the day will affect many other things, including plant growth, personal beliefs, and so on.
Surprise.

While i understand your problem there's no other way than to live with it. Night seems to be much longer than day until you just suck it up and work through the night.

Things change when it's a moonless night though..Those suck. Then you'd be happy if you had a village idol and heartfires all over the place.

i could live with 9 hours or something, or 7. what he wants is that the timeframe slightly changes every day to not have to be in the dark whenever he plays.

I know, but really all he has to do is login at a different moment of the day.
It's not that i don't want it to see changed, but just because one person has trouble logging in at the right moment doesn't mean the game needs a change.

I think there's some sense in it, though, and I have indeed considered making the day 7 RL hours instead. Since 7 is prime, it should allow for a nice rotation inside the real days.

That would mean irregular night and day doesn't it?

Sure, let me go tell my boss I'm quitting to play H&H full time.

Wait you don't have weekends and the time to play games for more than a couple hours?
But as i said before, i understand your problem. Thing is that you can't help everyone. You can't really lie down in the sun if you get home from work either right?

Well, in this case, the problem would be so easy to solve, though. I do think it would be good if the in-game days got a bit dislodged from the real calendar.

The change would also be really easy to implement. I really do like the current in-game days, though, since it's so easy to think about it by just multiply real time by three to get in-game time. That's mostly what makes me hesitant to change it.
