Awesome raid (that is, for my small camp)

Postby Kearn » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:02 am

I was exploring in a boat that i stole (more like, repossessed from an inactive and rotting settlement, with broken down palisades) in farther regions of rivers when I stumbled upon a 4 house village. The claim-pole thing was destroyed (if it's possible to be destroyed) or there wasn't one, because I was able to go aground. The fences were rotting and the drying frames were mostly destroyed, but there were a massive complex of fences and gates across the settlement. I went in the cabins. The first had a basket in it with nothing in it. The second house had a bed and a cupboard. The cupboard eventually had the most valuable thing left in the camp: a stone bait. I continued to the third cabin. There were runestones littered about in front of the door. I went in through the door, and found a sleeping person, a hearth fire, a CORPSE, and a runestone that read, "WE STOLE FROM YOU *BEEPS* AND MURDERED YOUR LEADER." I was stunned and continued on to the fourth cabin, which contained nothing. I made my way back to my boat and continued up river, when I saw a tiny 1-house settlement that was BARELY on the minimap. Hoping the raiders had missed it, I went up to the house and found ridiculous amounts of crops ready to be harvested. The drying frames were almost destroyed from decay, but still stood. I went in the cabin to find about 15 cooked fish fillets and massive amounts of fish and A Beautiful Dreams. I harvested the crops and could not cram them into my inventory. I found a cart half-hidden behind the cabin and opened it. It contained FOUR empty crates. I filled them with crops, fish, fish fillets, seeds, and even tableware I stole from a table inside. 2 crates and a full backpack-increased inventory could barely contain all the plunder. I was so desperate for my best raid I actually stole items from an un-finished construction site nearby.

That's the beauty of H&H, most everything you come across is player created.
Every ruins and run down shack you encounter has a bit of history and intrigue to it.

What amazing is is that all the storages, crops, and tableware seemed to be made for someone to steal it!

I'm pretty sure most new players take whatever isn't nailed down with yeomanry. Got myself a nice soldiers sword and rangers cloak that way.

this thread is now about stuff you find in the ruins of other settlements and those places themselves. i was doing the same thing when i came across a place called "bobs ranch." the place was empty, no hearth fires, no corpses, nothing, in fact every container i found was empty and the whole thing was unclaimed, across the river was another even bigger complex of ruins. quite impressive really.
