A Solo Newb Log

Postby Woof » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:18 am

I will keep a progress log of my adventures as a solo newb.

I have gained a basic understanding of most of the lower portion of the game, but of course as a newbie, can not learn the rest due to being a solo newb and not having the access like most of the grouped players do. I am at an almost 100% disadvantage to them, but I will try to make due anyways....
Luckily, in the beginning, I had the opportunity to be somewhat close to village that was abandoned and gained a few head starts to my progress.

My main goal is to join a village and be able to enjoy the game, and end this life as a wandering nomad.

Hey, I started just under a week ago.

Once again, spending time as a wandering nomad until I decided that it was time to build a boat. The boat was a fun ride, and I eventually found a pretty nice looking piece of forest with no signs of players, anywhere!

I started building a house! After much toil and sweat, the house grew larger and before long it was fully built. I then realised that I was spending almost my entire time alone, but one day this little russian guy came along, my first words were something like "OH MY GOD! YOUR MY FIRST PERSON!!!" to which he responded, "BRB"

He came back with a trailer load of stuff, with seeds, a herbalist table and some other basic (noobish) goodies. I discovered that he too was a relative noob, and since then we've been friends, everytime we log on, we go kill stuff or simply party up and do stuff - even if he doesn't speak good english.

I remember when I found my first cave, I was SO excited! Not realizing that I must have walked two or three region maps, I told him to come on over and we'll prospect it and explore!

It took two hours!

But we're still friends and last night we killed a fox.

lol.

seriously, the game is great, don't feel inclined to join a village as it can change your experience drastically. Play the game how you want to play it, don't feel obliged to join a village because everyone else does - often when you do, you enter an era of 'do this, do that' and instead of simpyl doing things for yourself, you'll get asked to do things and others will do things for you - sounds great, but for me at least part of this game is all about achievement.

Good luck!
