Naming = bad?

Someone left me a runestone complaint about me naming a couple of lakes, feeling it invaded their privacy. Is naming areas generally frowned upon?

did you name it dong lake or maybe penis lake? naming lakes with non-phallic names is frowned upon by most :mrgreen:.

Of all the things to whine about.

"Oh no, somebody else calls a landmark something different than I do! Whatever shall I do!"

The amusing part is, their insisting you not name public property is them trying to limit your "rights" (if you can claim to have any in H&H), whilst they claim you're limiting theirs.

Long ago I had a neighbor who built a road next to my place, then complained that I planted flowers next to it. Sometimes people just like to complain.

I named a river "Bolt River", a small land end "Cape Danno", a lake "Snorkel Lake", and another lake "Weaver Lake", and that's it. I signed a couple of them for the hell of it. Other than the runestone, someone talked to me and two people from my village to complain about how we were wasting boulders with the runestones (when I was only making them when I saw 2 or 3 boulders right next to each other)... And that he didn't like me naming places as if I was marking my territory since other people have been in the general region longer. They also complained at us for cutting down trees near our own settlement when they're quite a ways away. This guy moved all the stones to my village, removed the small amount of pavement I had around them, and even planted grass where the pavement used to be. Is that really necessary...?
There was also a written parchment today complaining about the stones (even though they've all been moved) saying it was annoying and a waste of boulders and that I should destroy the runestones.

I just thought it might be nice to say "Hey, I'm at Bolt River." rather than "Yeah, I'm at some river... y'know, the one near the thing." and I thought it was fun to name places...

I guess I'll just have to have as little involvement as I can with the land until I can work my skills up enough to safely be nomadic... hopefully there's a place in this world that hasn't already been claimed by such control freaks.

Are the people complaining stronger than you? Act like you care, get stronger, do what you want.

Are they weaker than you? Tell them to fuck off.

If HnH diplomacy has taught me anything, it's that the answer is to leave a runestone that reads "pwnt" or "fagg0t" by his house.

I don't care what they say, so long as you go to their town and turn every boulder within 10 minimaps into runestones and put them by the gate.
