Hey all,
Just got back from my holiday to a tropical island about 3-4 hours ago, it was awesome.
The guys we were staying in brought back 20 kilogram mai-mai, yellow fin tuna, wahu's every night, baked them in hot coals or made sushimi out of them.
The eclipse itself was possibly the most creepy and simultaneously awesome thing I've ever seen. We went out on a boat to get in the right spot, about 6 hours on really choppy ocean through the night, I got killer sea sick, but it was all worth it for the morning, when the full eclipse happened, and we were in totality for a good 2-3 minutes.
Because the sun was so low in the sky the perspectives made it look MASSIVE, and all the music went off, the water went still, there was a creepy dark brown sort of light, and you could see on the horizon where the edge of the shadow was falling.
I can totally see how primitive cultures made such a big deal about total eclipses now. If you ever get the opportunity to go see one, do it. Being in the totality is infinitely more impressive than in a spot where you can't gaze at the sun with your bare eyes.
