I stumbled across a village called Fort Egg Mk2 today, and I was wondering which SG this village is on. How far is it from Constantinople? And is there anyone in Fort Egg Mk2 that I can trade with? I really need a pickaxe and some bars of metal.

I need just enough for a cauldron. Maybe a pickaxe and a bar for a cellar too. I read in the wiki that clay cauldron halves water quality.

That seems easily solved ... Don't leave metal stuff lying around outside when you logoff. And maybe leave some none metal stuff outside just to try to trow any potential passing griever of target.
