I'm not expert on Salem but I got the feeling they went with non-resetting world bit too soon (map gen wasn't terrible but for one thing, there's holes you can't fill because you can't carry dirt into the bottom.

but did such places take the whole area of the world? I think you can just settle up somewhere that isn't like this
