Lol. I've heard some similar excuses.
For example, recently Maid Cafe and stuff close to it got destroyed. It wasn't abandoned. If place has no soul it doesn't mean player stopped playing. Geez. I've met plenty of people, friendly or not. New world is just excuse. Only real argument I can accept that Level 5 underground might be a this point like old woman, discovered already everywhere.

Wanting to play a game in a new world on equal footing with friends is not an excuse, it's a valid reason as to why they want to play at the beginning of a new world.
Reasons why people may not want to play this late into a world can include:
- The survival element is gone. This late in the world it's incredibly easy to obtain food and tools. Just scavenge from one of the many abandoned settlements and I'm sure you'll find a few metal bars and dead cows and misplaced crops. If not just visit a market and ask around, someone will drop you a few carrots and bam you're set. After that then what happens? This is why I think the burnout rate is 3-4 months that people keep talking about, because Mid to Late game is lacking and isn't engaging enough. Why would I ever NEED to leave my walls?
- From what I understand, joining to participate in the PvP game is pointless due to catching up being impossible.
- Creative people obviously don't want their stuff destroyed potentially so soon.
You'll have people who play H&H thinking it's an Open World SURVIVAL game, they beat the survival part and then realize there isn't really a whole lot to do during the civilization phase.
I played World 9 mid-world because it was my first time. I learned the gist of the game (put points into Perception and Exploration, then Intelligence, and everything after that is situational). World 10 comes along and I do everything again, bigger and faster. But now there wasn't really much for me to do. You can only watch sheep get kicked around so many times (Shoo-ball). I once tried to start the Cult of the Walrus, but that becomes dependent on others staying around to. I guess I could make Quills to buy store hats, but I'd sooner give Jorb real money for that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I guess other people having dead bears (or bigger stuff) first few hours still seems to be equal huh?
Why won't You all just make gentleman agreement and start on equal foot, without using abandoned stuff around. It means all You do, You do by yourself and don't use the stuff that lies around after someone left it.
Credos, hunting, trading. There's a few reasons why would You want to leave your walls. If all You want to achieve is to survive against PvE, You might as well find first hobbit hole and never exit it. If You speak about PvP and yet are afraid of goings outside... well. Also, "pointless without catching up". 5 smaller warriors should be able to bring titan down I think? Not sure, can't say I'm 100% correct, but You can win with numbers. If enemy also has numbers then I guess You could lose anyway. You don't sound like a person who had a lot of experiences in PvP.
Creative people create. For themselfs or for factions. It's easly to secure creative stuff with claim. As long as You are out of faction / have friends in a faction, You shouldn't have been bothered with enemies wanting to destroy your 'creativy'.
Also, You never beat the part of survival if You go outside in the first place. If You just build a palisade and never peek your nose outside it... I dunno if You beat the survival or survival beat out You.
