Map Change-Goods for Services

Postby Krantarin » Mon Jul 20, 2009 3:50 am

My village is pretty steel rich, but there aren't a lot of us (and we all know each other in real life). When the map changes, we're going to want someone from outside to help make roads from our site to major villages, and possibly someone to build our walls (not the gate, of course). This will be a way to trade high-value steel equipment that we won't be able to carry such as Battle Axes (we've got plenty).

We'd only trade with reputable people without any criminal past, but if you like the idea, post here. Or if you really prefer confidentiality, PM me.

I kind of prefer transactions being public-it helps you to get a better deal.

Wait, if you can't carry them, why are you offering to trade them? Unless if you mean giving it to us on this map in exchange for the labor on the next map? If that's the case, I'll build the heck out of those roads, and if you need a brick wall, I'll build as much as you want so long as you could supply the wrought iron on the cornerposts.

I wouldn't mind helping either.

Yep, you've got it right. You get the goods just before the map change and afterwards you work on our new settlement and roads.

We've got a ton of good quality equipment-battle axes, etc- that we won't be able to take. No deal will be finalized until just before the map change, but it's good to hear that we'll have workers.

EDIT: So what would you guys be charging for your services?

I' d be totally willing to work after the map change, once I get my own stuff set up (a nice cabin out in the woods, maybe some water nearby, you know how it is). What exactly would this entail? As in, would we be supplying the materials as well as the labor, as far as walls go, or what? As far as charging is concerned, I think I'd prefer to charge by the hour, dependent on some sort of "how hard you worked to get steel and the knowledge that you can't keep it anyways" vs "how hard I'd work on your tasks" metric.

ps: I have most of the skills, but I still don't understand how to attack with an axe-type weapon (I have a pickaxe) instead of a sword; I try k->c for attack->chop, but my cursor doesn't change no matter what I do.

For a steel breastplate, I'd build a road 5 wide, flax on each side, for as long as you deem necessary. It'd be cardinal directions though, since angles are confusing as hell in isometric.

I don't think you can attack with a pickaxe.

Sonerohi, that's great. We'll do some PMing before the map change. After the mapchange, the roads will depend on where the major settlements are, of course. We'll pay you a Breastplate for every road to a major settlement made with that good quality if you want.

Colbear, we'd rather pay for specific jobs because we're paying in such large, valuable goods. Our settlement would provide valuable resources like wrought for the wall, but we would not provide clay for the brick wall (something that can be quite annoying during the making of bricks).

Wowzers. I'm extremely enjoying the prospect of this deal, so long as it's understood that once the road is paved, flax will come in slowly as the ones along the road mature, get replanted, and go towards the expansion of flax along the road.

Yep. If you're making the road, do we have someone to make the walls?

For walls, we'll probably pay another unit on completion, even though we'll need to carry the goods over on the map change.

Edit-I made it sound like we'd be paying the same amount-walls are going to be very important and I don't want our village to be bothered with making them, so we'll pay a very high price.

Any takers?
