Sounding for sellers of gold/silver

Postby legendy » Mon Sep 14, 2009 7:42 pm

Title says most of it. Although silver and gold have absolutely no use as of this post, they are indeed quite shiny and rare and valuable and thus something I would love to get my hands on. Sadly, my community doesnt have access to a mine of such metals, and thus I'm wondering whether someone would be kind enough to trade some of theirs. I have no idea what price it might be at, since i bet no such tradings have yet been accomplished, but i do have some iron on hand to trade.

So, holders of gold and silver, at what prices would you sell gold or silver bars in iron (wrought or cast)? Please specify quality of wanted and offered bars. (I make no guarantee that i will indeed trade at the prices you give, I'm just sounding to see what prices people expect)

Call me insane, but that's just how i am. And not necessarily horde it, just a few bars or something.

Well, as gold and silver have coins with infinite value, they are inherently very good for making currency.

Actually, they have no value other than as curios, making them technically worthless for coinage unless someone starts hoarding them.

Of course, if even one person is willing to pay, for instance, a loaf of bread in exchange for one GC, then all GCs will have that value because each one could be taken to that crazy bread merchant. I for one am willing to sell... q50 water for 10 CIC a bucket*, and equivalent values of gold and silver depending on the rarity. Actually, I'm going to create a thread for that.

As for the relative value of the coins, I'd say that they are easiest to rate based on the relative prevalence of each kind of mine. So, how many gold mines are there relative to iron? How many silver? I understand that there are only one or two of each, but that's only what has been mentioned on the forum. There are several more iron mines, and a few other metals, but I have not clear idea how many of them there are. I'd say that silver is five times rarer than iron and gold twice as rare as silver. Thus, currently:

100 CIC = 20 SC = 10 GC. That does not, however, take into account demand.
Once I have a large stock of each coin, I will change coins for a 2% fee.

*Bucket not included. Please see stores for details. Offer not valid in MI, FL, AL, and Spain, as those territories are not actually in the H&H universe.
Surprise.
