Sand at RoB

Postby Peter » Sun Jul 12, 2009 4:53 am

I've got an alt with a hearth over by the beach. Let me know if you need some fresh, tasty sand for your glassmaking, and I'll drop it off at the ring. Tips welcome! PM me and I'll tell you when to stop by.
Surprise.

I've left a sample basket at the RoB with some sand. If you just need a pinch, feel free to zip over there.

Heh i made my heartfire on a beach too as i can just spawn at my idol.
But i don't understand why you do this. You should trade for it. For once there's someone that's not easy to get for everyone and you're giving it away like that at the RoB.

Sheesh, try to do a good deed and that's what you get.

Did you decide that the "bandages for the poor" was too socialist as well?
It was 16 units, not exactly a monopoly...

Now, if anyone's interested in large amounts, let me know and I'll do special orders to the RoB.

No that's not what i am saying.

People kept asking for local resources you can't get in other parts of the map. Now we've got them and you don't use the opportunity.
Plus, what can newbies do with glass anyway?

Playing that sand is harder to get than it actually is, is is doomed to fail. As long as long as some means of long distance teleportation are possible, the economics will reflect that whether one likes it or not.

Heh no it's not hard to get if you don't care about walking. But it is a resource you won't find by just walking for 5 minutes depending on where you live.
I don't think there's a market for glass anyway, because noone wants to trade. But if you're living alone and you got glass then why not make someone do some tasks for you in exchange for it.

Plus, there are no economics in this game.

Well, I for one am going to start a winery. I don't know if it's the first, but it'll exist.
I've found a small nook that's just perfect for it. I will need shipments of sand on occasion though, so peter, i will PM you when needed.

The dev's probably plan on fixing teleportation eventually, that would make sand harder to get/transport.

In terms of criticizing someone for giving stuff away for free, well, I understand feeling like it's messing with the economy, I felt similarly about clayshire, but it's wrong to resent people for their charitable actions and tell them not to do it.

There's economy in the game, just not a lot of thriving markets. There was a thread just the other day announcing a food vendor in bottleneck doing small quantities. I've seen some other trades publicly carried out and they seemed fairly good

It wasn't really meant as criticising..more like..hey you can do something with it.
