Given VDZ's history, I'm more inclined to trust him in that his original shop wasn't a trap and it got co-opted as bait for whoever is noob baiting.

That said, I do not understand why VDZ went to the effort of making a shop by RoB when options like GT or even H4D existed...

I will say I have been over to that nab shop before once or twice and did not get attacked or see anyone other than alts.

Delete this. So far what i gathered is. The shop is legit. But the guy who promotes isnt. Someone claimed all around brodgar and soon they will banish the shop. The process will take like 3 months? What a long boring game for both tbh.

You'd have to both move towards the area from the outside on an actual fighter and have a bait character move towards the shop at the same time. They have a watchbot both in the Ring of Brodgar itself and near the gate at the edge of the safe area and will likely not come out unless you've been seen by both of the bots (lest they run into someone actually capable of defending themselves). The fighter can't directly come from the Ring of Brodgar; you pass through a palisade gate on the way there, giving you Visitor and allowing the griefer to just Evict you should you prove to be capable of defending yourself. (Evict while in combat results in automatically getting KOed.)

Also, it's almost certainly a group. In a warning message near my home they referred to themselves as 'we', the fact that they were easily able to reach my base implies a significant teleport reach individual players typically don't have (nobody's going to sail for hours just to deliver a runestone), and them being able to figure out my main's name (despite the shop being owned and run by an alt, and the cornerpost being destroyed by a different alt) also implies significant information gathering capacity (I've kinned very few people on my main).

Kinda screwy how few people play this game at a high level, yet an entire group of them has dedicated itself to griefing the safe zone. Community gatekeeping the player count as usual, can't complain.

The rush of griefing the only safe zone in the game is probably enough for them tbh, just so happens the shop was there too.
