"...you don't get to decide how other people should play."

If there were any truth to this the PvP crowd would leave the rest of us alone.

There aren't rly many games like Haven. They're not profitable enough. Too niche.
There are a million low budget farming/"vibes" MMOs. Stardew Valley multiplayer is right there if you rly want it.

IMO, going into a niche space like this, knowing what you're signing up for, then complaining about the one element that makes it special/fun to a large number of people is insanely entitled/self absorbed. Moreso than me killing you in the PVP game when you didn't want to take that fight.

You implicitly agreed that somebody might kill you when you hit login. I don't rly want to die in league of legends, but I'm not posting on their forums about how the people who killed me won't leave me alone or something

"The trailer and screenshots on the steam page and official site do nothing to make the player expect a hard core experience."

Exactly. Despite the cries of the PvP crowd that "This is a PvP game!" there is nothing in the promo materials stating that. People come here expecting a survival game of hunting, fishing, farming, questing, etc., then the first person they encounter says "hello" and kills them.

"This current system is actually good in its simplicity..."

If it were that simple we would all be good at it. As someone else pointed out, Haven has turn-based combat played in real time. It is a non-intuitive kludge of memorizing a dozen moves and "this attack on that opening but that attack on this opening"; for some people this is simple, for many it is not.

I have what I feel is a good solution to the overabundance of unprovoked assaults/murders - if you have no criminal scents and are attacked by another player (not by animals) you can hearth away. You cannot hearth if you initiated the fight, even if you're getting your butt kicked.

Maybe a valid complaint from a new player, not from you

"...how easy it is to run away from people..."

Now "combat" becomes who has the most water since we all have the same run speed.

By all rights i should have been killed a a week ago. I was trying to build a jump from a lake to a river ("there's not enough space at teh destination") and here comes a snekka down the river. The person jumps out and attacks me, pinning me against a cliff. I wasn't even fighting, just trying to get away. They did the hack-and-slash bit on me for about thirty seconds before i could get around them and run to my boat in the lake. They must have been miserable fighters; I only had about 50 UA and 200hp, only "armor" was a bat cape, yet I escaped with 25%shp and 50%hhp remaining. A day of R&R and back to work.

"...running in a straight line..."

In this game?!

I've complained for years about the pathing here. If your character barely brushes anything they come to a stop. I've been mauled by animals on too many occasions because they can run over, under, around, or through anything while I must micromanage my character one step at a time - go around this tree, sidestep that boulder, detour around this log. Now I'm not saying the character should negotiate a maze with one click, but certainly they can walk around something.

And that applies equally the other way around.
