Oh well.

A taste for thieving is about the player, not the character.

Oh I 'get' it. But the problem here is that you can't 'Roleplay' in a pre-industrial world and make Nazi references. It's out of theme, out of character, and as such, indicates player identity rather than character identity. Seriously, I'm 12+ year M:tA ST (oWoD). If there is ANY system more dependent on RP skill i haven't heard of it, and I've tried my hand quite a few different systems, including dozens I've written myself/collaboratively. It doesn't fit. As such. He's a Nazi. Kill him, if you have any sense of decency. I will if I see him.

Roleplaying is just a way to find an excuse for being an asshole. I've DM-ed D&D for a long time, and each and every time one of my players invoked roleplaying as explanation for his actions, it was for that reason.

That's the sad truth. RP can be fun in some ways, but typically (I DM D&D too and I know exactly what you mean, Potjeh), It's just an excuse for doing bad things. I'd argue that doing evil away from the real world is one of the points of RP if I didn't mind references to nazism; a place where you can pretend to be evil occasionally is actually a positive outlet, but as a grandson of a holocaust survivor I can't stand this excuse. There's a point where the thrill of breaking imaginary laws and pretending to do heinous deeds goes a little too far.

I traded with jFloyd a couple of months ago before we found out he was Himmler. I haven't had anything to do with him since.

I'm the grandson of a holocaust survivor.

Doesn't make me quite special and I still don't care for hitler/nazi jokes.

It's 2009, stop living in the past.

Actually, the swastika comes from pagan rune carving, the swastika is two S shaped runes, much like the UP arrow, it represented victory and triumph. It existed predominently in the era this game takes place in.

RPing an evil character is OK, and can be done without being an asshole to the other players (in a game that contains NPC's, not so much in H&H) I've both been one of those players and DMed with such players, if can be a lot of fun, one game of slayers we took over a continent, named it chuck norris, and our main exports were acid and pain.

I tend to see a lot of people claiming to role play and just doing things that are a pain in the ass for other players though, which is not so great.

I don't think JFloyd can call role play on the hitler references though, not unless he's making up his own characters and settings entirely in which case he shouldn't expect any one else to get it. Which of course we don't.

Raeph, I thought the complaints were about the name rather than the symbology

I JUST LOVE when people think they understand occult symbology of WWII references. Something tells me these children aren't exhibiting a fylfot in reverence to their recently departed pagan anscestors.

very interesting... I think RP is very possible in HnH but im afraid there arent a lot of ppl actually doing it.
If i wanted to kill or steal, i sure would make a character for it and play it like that. and i would expect ppl to understand the difference between a char and a player. apparently it doesnt really work... and its hard to differ, cause you never know if someone is actually playing or not, especially when he/she insults you or makes other stupid stuff.
