I took a look at Brodgor and decided that I wish to join. TheTrav helped convince me, and also swore me in. I will work as a farmer, and also supply wool and milk as my hearth fire is by a giant off the main super grid plain that I have all to myself. I can't guarantee that I will be a citizen for long, depends how I like it and if me and my friends want to make the next version of Pine Valley again.

I like the oaths,
I agree that mandatory voting isn't something we should aim for.
I like the requirement for changing the constitution

I think the jury/crime thing should be fleshed out a bit
1 - Levels of punishment
resource fine, extremely light
eviction from home, somewhat heavy, but can still re-settle elsewhere in brodgar, will become more harsh as the city grows
banishment from brodgar, quite heavy
death, heaviest (includes siezure of assets)

City officials should take part in any criminal judgement and sentencing, I don't really know how, but I'd be comfortable to say that the law speaker / chieftan sets the sentence, but does not make up the jury? What about hirdsmen?

What voting model are we using? First past the post? or preferential voting like in Australia?

I think we should also establish something in the constitution for governmental appropriation of resources and land, like kicking people off the farm plots if they decide to build houses there etc.

While I agree about the need for this detail, I think we need to keep the Oaths to a general statement of basic principles as much as possible. Then, future laws need to cohere with those principles, following them as a guideline. Once people have agreed on a version of this, I can then begin to write specific laws, covering such thing as crime and punishment, the powers of the lawspeaker/chieftan, citizenship, etc.

I don't like the part where you have to live in the Village to be a citizen.
I live closeby, can't that count?

How close is close by?

I guess it depends on how far the influence of Brodgar stretches...

I'm a fan of only having people who live in the city be responsible for conduct and decisions that affect those living within the city.
But I also don't want it to turn into something where people feel obliged to effectively construct a holiday house within the city, turning the place into a big ugly ghost town...

Why do you want to live far away and what do you want to get out of citizenship? Perhaps some sort of voluntary protectorate status can be worked out?

About 30 seconds from RoB.
I thought I might want to do some work there. Maybe faming, logging, level 1 hunting...
I just find it boring being alone after all my friends moved out.

when you say "there" do you mean brodgar? or at your old place?

I imagine Brodgar will have some hunters and loggers who do regular work trips to their plantation/forests, so I think it's valid to live in one place and work in another...

This was a big part of my decision to live in brodgar. It's a place that's pretty much always going to have activity in it due to its proximity to RoB and it's high population.
If you think you're bored playing by yourself then that makes me think you'd benefit more from moving into the city proper than you would from being out on your own. Even if you're really close, if you don't get the traffic past your front door you won't have the same social element.

Personally, I am considering a small estate just over the river, on top of the house I have in the city. Somewhere to grow a little wine and get away from it all.

This will have to be decided when we come to writing up laws on citizenship, but I guess we could grant citizenship to people within a certain walkable distance, if they request it. As for houses in the city becoming empty, I think those would be the ones most sought after by artisans/merchants. They can use them to store produce for trade, or have their high quality looms or what not inside.
