25 cloth = 250 plant fibers.... Not exactly a number quickly attained.

Edit: whoops, 125 plant fibers, my bad, still a bunch of work to get.

Maybe if someone had a plantation to make such number of plant fibers in large supply (hint hint) we could have more banners.

I have a field of maybe 40-80 flax(I have no clue, really.. but I know it's around there XD), so that's about a day or a day and a half worth. Seriously though, that plantation needs to be put up >.>

Even though there's plenty of room for improvement, these laws seem acceptable as a constitution so I'll vote in favor of it or "AYE" as you seem to prefer.

Regarding the ability to remove peoples rights, perhaps that will become necessary. I did consider it after you suggested it before, but I think that for now we can see how things play out, and try and keep the Oaths as lean as possible. We can, of course, make a law that does this.

Regarding the two weeks requirement, it is a bit long. However, if we are thinking of this city as something which may grow to be quite considerable in size, and may last for as long as this world does on the server, we need to be careful. I think people will have more faith in Brodgar's laws if they know that they haven't just been dumped on the people from on high. Lets say somebody goes on holiday for a week, comes back, and finds out that a new law has been passed that effects them in some way.

Laremere wrote:As the pm I sent Yolan seems to have been ignored, I'll just post this in the thread:

As I want to be primarily farming oriented, I wish to start a plantation. The communal farm has problems of disorganization, people harvesting crops that I wish to use, that while replanted I can't access as a resource, and lower level farmers will be limiting my seed quality. I have walked around the limits of Brodgar and found that the only reasonable place to build my farm right now is on the southern edge. I can't expand to the West or East due to claims blocking the land. I wish to build a plantation on the Southern edge of Brodgar, on the East side of the road expanding Southward until hitting the road coming from the RoB. It will be built highly organized, giving a nice front to the city.

I will make the farming area first, then start seeding a pasture for use when animal domestication is introduced, and finally have the remaining area be a tree farm. I additionally love the idea of Brodgar having a far reaching city authority area, and so will supply a very large supply of cloth for banners, and tea for miners (provided I have access to a cauldron)

I've been waiting several days on this already, and really need some official word so I can start my plantation and start playing the game instead of waiting on other people.

Also, I lost my Mulberry tree. :(

Edit: Boulder, your claim goes over the road, and you're farming in residential zoned area.

Sorry Laremere, I just responded to your PM then. When did you send it to me? I do check my mail whenever I can, but some days I get busy with work and there might be a gap. In any case, I certainly don't ignore any messages I get.

By the way guys, while I might do a few hours of work a week on our copper mine, I am mostly going to be spending my time helping out with legalities. I know a lot of people must be wanting to get their hands on some copper so they can make chests, basements, etc. Well, basically we need miners! So, those of you who are industry, please consider working on your constitution so that you can cross the river and head on over there to help out.

We also really need high quality clay brought over, so that we can keep the kilns and smelters in good condition. This is important so that we make good quality copper.

So, as we are not a communistic city, please consider the following offer.

Any citizen of Brodgar who wishes to mine in either our copper mine or our tin mine, may have a key copied so that they can access the site as they please (they must also get added to the kin list of whoever has claimed the site).

Then, we request that one third of whatever is mined is handed over to the city of Brodgar. That is, to myself, to theTrav, or to, in the future, another designated official.

Why do this? Because mines are rare. But furthermore, they took effort to establish. The kilns and smelters that they require took effort to create, and take ongoing effort to sustain. For the benefit of walking in somewhere and mining what you need, and doing what you want with that ore, we request this tax so as to help make the mine sustainable, and help fund the city.

Please PM me or theTrav if you are interested.

-Yolan

By the way, once Brodgar has an established treasury, and especially once we have coins, we can begin to pay people for their contributions to the city. As we increase in population, the more easily this kind of system will help things run.

Regarding the open paved area nw of the community workshop:

Are you industry? Haven't built a little farm outside the town yet? New? Not sure what your role can be?

Some suggestions:

Make a little walled compound in this central area (don't be a hog, and leave space for access) and:

1) Make a lumberyard. Collect trees from afar. Sell them. The town is made of wood, wood needs repair. Brodgar can pay in copper. Theres one big contract for you right there.

2) How about a brick maker? Get a camp out near some high quality clay, port back to your high quality kilns. Use high quality coal. Make awesome bricks. Sell. Eventually people will want to make more things out of bricks, and you can be there to sell good ones when they do.

3) Though about maxing your smithy skills? You could trade for iron, and then craft good quality weapons and armor for sale.

Its still early days, but Brodgar will soon have plenty of coin floating about. More and more, I hope to see people going into business for themselves, and bringing trade to the city. If you are very community minded, consider that setting up a store or workshop like this would be a big boon to the city. Get a newbie and make them your apprentice! Start a craft guild! This is the perfect town to do stuff like this in.
