It's been agreed that I should stow the tanning beds in my compound, to keep them from being stolen, so they will be in there for a while. I'll probably be about tomorrow to get them out and fill them with the dried skins.

I think you should only stow half of them... If I want to play while you're offline, I'm going to want leather pretty soon so I can make myself a backpack. It would be annoying to have to chop more trees to accomplish this.

Okay I was able to work out a halfassed diagram for that residential area idea
YAAR

it should be obvious what's a cabin, which parts are walls, and what the road is on the diagram.
To explain the rest, the top group of cabins is under a single claim, same with the bottom one. the single red and blue cells are claim posts. basically its a neighborhood system, and the residents of each block elect who they want to represent them(This might also make city meetings easier.). The representative is then responsible for claiming the entire block.
I would expand more on this idea, but..well I'm tired.

Nice diagram. Thats the kind of density I would like to see.

As for personal claims, we are working on clan totem now, so hopefully they wont be required soon for a lot of people. Of course, other citizens could break in, but hopefully that won't happen much! Its more the fact that as an open city we will have lots of strangers around that means we all need walled and locked homes and work areas.

Any space left? Mate, we will pack em in tight, but then when our residential space is full, we will add more. We want a city of as many people as we can jam together, who can stand living with eachother. This will make it more fun for everybody.

EDIT: By this I mean, of course!

And so it came to pass...

OK. Brodgar now has a village totem.

What does this mean?

Anywhere within the influence of the totem (click on the white claim toggle to view that sphere if you are already a member), will be able to act as per normal. If you are not, it will leave traces of tresspass, theft, etc.

In order to expand that influence, so as to safely cover everybodies homes, I suggest that we get to making flax on a large scale, weaving, and creating banners. Then we can become much more secure.

If you wish to live in Brodgar, it is important that you get inducted ASAP. This can only be done by me at the moment! However, if we had a village chief, that person could also induct new players. The minimum stat requirement to be chieftan (hard coded), is 25 charisma. Does anybody fit the bill? If multiple people do, we can vote over it.

I'm a little too far from that. If we had some mutton and a couple bunches of grapes...

Anyway, I'll be on later today to claim my plot of land.
Surprise.

VOTING:

The position of lawspeaker was taken on the spot by me at the time of idol formation. However, as I have said in the past, I intend the village leadership to be democratically elected. Within a few days, when people are more settled, I want to have a preliminary vote. I nominate myself for the position (of lawspeaker).

Any other person who is living in Brodgar/has helped out in the last few days is welcome to nominate themselves here on this board, and suggest why they deserve the position. Subsequently, I suggest we hold a further vote in a months time (or less if demanded) on the issue again, as by then we may well have many more inhabitants.

I think that we should make a separation of power between the executive chieftan (major policy initiatives, such as declaring war), and the judiciary/legislative lawspeaker (drafts laws).

If elected lawspeaker, I would work to draft a basic framework of legal statutes, such that Brodgar can function as a bustling, commercial center of world trade, and its citizens enjoy basic freedoms unmolested by would be oligarchs or bullies. First, I would seek to write a basic constitution, to be voted in on majority, which would form the foundation for future laws. No law may be passed which contradicts that constitution. Secondly, I would seek to establish guidlines for the duties of citizens in taking part in our democratic city. As well as voting for the leaders at due points, I believe that we should also expect our citizens to vote on new laws, and sit in trials (perhaps not at the same time in game, but on a private forum online) when deciding matters of guilt and penance regarding criminal cases. The powers of the leaders, and the limits of those should be clearly outlined and understood by all. If elected lawspeaker, I would endeavour to bring this about, such as the city of Brodgar become a beacon of civilisation in a barbaric wilderness.
