Responding to Global Threats

Postby Peter » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:10 pm

It occurred to me that high-level-player killing sprees are not only a threat to those nearby, but in fact to everyone in the world.

This is because if such an event happens, J&|L will be forced to suspend the game to determine if cheats, hacks, or exploits have been involved. Even if it is not immediately clear that this is the case, it must be proven that it is not. This suspension, as we have seen, may last for hours, depriving many players of access, and potentially leading to serverwide "fixes" such as the quality reset.

However, if there is an immediate and strong response from other strong players, then it is likely that the attack can be stopped quickly. Thus, it is less likely that there will need to be a suspension, and less time will be needed to fix issues if there is.

For all these reasons, I humbly propose that should a rampage occur again, all players do whatever they can to stop it, from fighting personally to providing tea to building barricades. By putting yourself in some measure of personal risk, you protect everyone, including yourself, from the certainty of a server lockdown.
Surprise.

You're not terribly familiar with how combat works, are you? If your skill isn't relatively close, the only way you're going to hit is with initiative attacks like Cleave or Knock his teeth out. Even if 20 people gathered around to fight off a rampaging power player, they'd likely all be slaughtered.

Oh, OK.
False alarm everyone, my mistake.
Don't Co-operate. In fact...

STOP.
INSTIGATE.
SHOUT AT PEOPLE.
Surprise.

If the combat system wasnt so broken and the power level gaps so huge, it could have been a feasible idea. But, as it is currently, the only possible way for weak players to fight the strong ones is to hide, and come get some scents later to kill them while they are offline.

Ofcouse, you cant kill a fulltrained specialops marine armed to the teeth with your butterfly. But you can do so while he is asleep. Dont see why this should be broken :p

The Zerg-rush approach won't even put a dent in them.... When they're online.
However, while they're off, many weak players can slaughter them like cows as they stand there.

They were nerfed 70%, and I heard that they typically had 500 str. Which leaves like.. I hate math, 150 (somthing?)str left. So, theres lots of life to get through.

All we could do is just pray they don't come online as they are being plundered to death by 30 noobs.
Also, because these forums are public, they could theoretically see it coming. So, just a heads up. If you go plotting revenge, maybe you want to do it in a less public way with fellow victims.

(I love a good zerg rush, but not enough to put myself at risk. I also hate politics. And dying. And, I'm a coward.
So, count me out.)

You can't kite bears. ANyone that uber wouldn't even flinch at the ppresence of a few L10's anyway. THey're just kill the bears fist, then use the LP to someone slaughter you even harder. But bot archers might be feasable if soumeone has a decent machine and anyone bothers to grind em up to meaningful level (70-110.

Waynesville is not...nor was your biggest threat of player apocolypse.

There are, in fact some other very powerful shadows lurking....

And no...I'm nowhere near powerful enough to do that myself anytime soon. But there are signs. I just read the signs. That is all.
