Or metal prices need to drop to the point where it's feasible for "lower" players to use metal ploughs.

I like the idea of walls having quality.

Maybe we could set up deadly traps around the walls as well.

Dogs. Domesticate some dogs, with nice pathfinding and ability to jump over signposts and go for the neck.

That would work, or not.
