H&H Olympics

Postby Potjeh » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:17 pm

It has come to my attention that some people are bored out of their skulls. And what better way to relieve boredom than to engage in some friendly competition? We should organize some games to entertain the masses, and to distribute prizes to the winners. I can contribute some copper coins and cheese to the prize fund, but I am a man of modest means so I'm asking all the better-off hearthlings to consider sponsoring the events. Here are the events I've thought of so far:

- Fishing competition. Competitors all assemble at one location and try to catch as many fish as possible. Different fish should give different points, according to their rarity. Leaving the competition area results in disqualification, so boats are not allowed. All contestants should verify that they're not cheating by dropping an inventory worth of branches before the judges. After half an hour the competition is over, and the points are counted. It would be really nice if we could get some expensive lures for prizes.

- Boat race. All competitors start at one lake and have to make their way to another lake. Lakes with no crossroads and hearths nearby will be chosen, to avoid cheating.

- Cart race. Similar to boat race.

- Hunting competition. All competitors start at the same location and go out to get some trophies. Boar tusks 1 point each, antlers 2, bear teeth 4. Failure to return to the starting location within the designated time period results in disqualification. Some weapons or armour would make for nice prizes here.

- Wrestling. Tournament-style, with enough time between rounds to heal SHP. Knockout opponent to win. I'm not so sure this one's a good idea, because there might be accidental deaths. Also, malicious people might pick up the scents and execute the competitors later, so this one is only recommended to people that want to die anyway.

Of course, betting is encouraged, to attract a bigger crowd. Anyway, I'm thinking this should take place next Sunday (11th) around 5PM CET, to make it convenient for both European and American players. A week should be enough to round up sponsors and competitors, and to suggest new events or changes to the ones that are already listed. I personally intend to compete in fishing and boat racing.

So, anyone interested?

You stole my hunting and "Wrestling"
competition ideas, though i was talking
about how you can't use storm of swords,
other than that there'd be no killing. take
a scent? you all fight on same exact spot,
yours is there too and i'd watch the scents.

Hunting i was thinking it should be unskinned
animals, foxes 1, deer 2, boar 3, bear 5. You
could bring dreams and hearth between the
"Olympus" idol and your hearth placing the corpses
at your lane in a section that's monitored by
a group of noobs that would want some money ;)

Betting, paying small sum to get in, and a
standard 1,2,3 prize scale from gold mine to
a straw basket of silver to a straw basket of high
ql bronze.

Isn't the eleventh a friday? If it's on friday I cannot join, sunday would be nice though. Also, do I have to bet with coins? If so, will there be a stall so I can exchange random goods to coins? Would be nice if someone could manage this, would be like a second hand store.

You can melt coins into bars, I do it all the time.

Also, damn you're right, 11th IS Friday. 13th it is then.

Anyway, I'll see what I can do about getting some coins to the people. I have to save most of mine for the prizes, but if cheese sales go well I may have some for buying off random junk on the day of the competition.

Sounds good, but if there is someone with enough coins for playing the bank that would be better I guess, because I think you should make noobs (like me :D) able to join the party.

The city of Wayneville decided in its endless generosity to sponsor some prizes for the big event. So far I have gathered 2 bronze swords (Q73), 1 militia sword (Q39), some pants and shoes made from Q140 leather and I will put one of my chests of BBB's on top (Q95-100). Klaue already told me he might sponsor some bronze he has to spare as well.
I hope people will acknowledge this as a sign of our goodwill. I think Potjeh's idea is a great thing, because he is right that most of us are bored to death. So Wayneville will of course not only sponsor the events, but have a team to participate in the actual events as well. Only if this doesn't contradict the tournament rules of course, sponsoring and taking part at the same time I mean.

Edit: Took me too long, klaue was faster :-)

As long as you're not betting against yourself, it should be OK.

Say, you guys have a gold mine, right? Any chance of giving a gold spoon lure for the fishing competition winner? I could toss some silk your way or something, if you think it's too much to donate.
