Re: P2P plan
Why not just set up a Patreon instead? Im sure before the P2P outrage many would have donated if we were aware that you guys had trouble paying bills. 1 dollar a month by a lot of people is much better than 10 dollars by a few.

Re: P2P plan
Jorb, I'm just going to speak up for a ton of people who I know are either lurking here or are getting truly angered over recent events here. This game you've made has been indeed a source of a ton of fun, great events and happenings, and all that jazz. But you have to realize that now-a-days, people aren't willing to pay lodsamone for something, especially near the level of WoW or EVE Online's price points anymore unless the game truly has the content and active playerbase to support it. Such is the case because people have been burnt out time and time again due to either Korean grindfests, Facebook-tier shovelware, or worst of all, the hubris of one of the lead devs or people working on the game putting a bad taste in peoples' mouths for all eternity (oh hi there, Metzen) for over the past nearly two decades mainly because of how samey and boring it's all gotten. And also due to some other things I'm sure other posters would be more than happy to tell you about on why few MMOs and the like barely use subs anymore. People don't usually spend a good chunk of money per month, unless they know that what they're getting is worth the investment. And whether you want to admit it or not, you kinda wrote yourself into a massive hole here the moment you not only made a good majority of the game be about time management, but also made it so that you have to spend a LOT of time to get something reasonably substantial going in terms of just a camp. And that's if either the bears or other cheeky players don't try to murder you beforehand. With this system, and with so high a price per month, you've almost overnight turned H&H2 into a Facebook-tier game like The Settlers Online or so forth, where you're quite limited in what you can do, and have to wait dumb amounts of time to even do anything unless you pay dosh-using items for speeding things up, or for just doing things again. And that's just something that seems too silly and wrong to me, especially since you of all people Jorb should know how much people dislike the kind of games Facebook and mobile stuff produce, and why they dislike it immensely.
Now, I understand why you would desire to set up such a system. After all, you two gotta eat like anyone else and pay bills, and no dosh means bad times for you both. But as probably a million posters have said by now, springing it up at the last moment and with such a high price tag isn't exactly a cool thing to do man. And as for here at the forums themselves, people are only truly upset due to the above, and also due to the response they've gotten from you and certain others here. People just want answers that don't end with "don't like it, then leave", or "people are mad/I'm not mad at all", or the over 50 thousand responses Ragnos has been throwing out over this mess, they just wanna know where things are going from here, and want answers that don't sound like they're being belitted or treated like children simply because of the issue of subs and money.
I have no idea what will happen after I make this post, if any of it will be taken seriously or if I'll regret this post later on due to responses or whatever, but I will leave saying this: The worst thing a dev can do, is let his hubris become his downfall. That led to Starbound's situation, and that's a fate I don't wish on this place at all.

this guy gets itApocoreo wrote:Jorb, you can't continue to treat this game as a pet project and ask for prices similar to MMO's that have been running their full verison for years.jorb wrote:I mean.... I'd love to have 99% uptime and fix bugs instantly. That requires resources, though, for which reason we are asking our players to provide us with some of those.
I get that you want the money to make Haven what it could be, but you have to price it for what it is. Your situation is comparable to the guys on Dragons Den who think they have a million-dollar product before they have sold a single unit.
And of course I'm willing to pay.
And of course I want Haven to succeed, I LOVE Haven.
And I get that this is just your initial prices, and you're open to them going up or down, but what upsets me is that it would not have taken you long to compare your pricing to current running MMO's.
World of Warcraft is $15 a month, that's nearly your own price range and many consider even that too much. This is a complete game with a massive number of support staff being fueled by that $15. And sure, that may actually be able to afford low profit margins due to their high player population. Even Runescape, although their pricing model has changed, once offered a free version of the game with an optional; $5 a month to unlock the full verison - and turns out the free verison was just the tiniest fraction of the game. Again, Runescape is a massive game supported by a large number of staff.
You don't have a large number of staff, it's just you and Loftar. And you don't have a massively multiplayer game. You advertised it yourself as a "eternal alpha". I'll pay the price for a big budget game when you have one. For now what you have is a multi-ton massive truckload of potential. Please use it wisely. I want to make you rich.
I would love to pay for Haven. maybe around $3 a month? I would sure as hell shell out for some cosmetics, my naked dude is terrifying. Is that enough to support you, with say 600~ players? Where did you get the initial $10 a month number?
EDIT: I should mention. I am playing Hafen till i can no longer without paying. My four friends that would have been my villagers have lost all interest and have not joined me.
The Brodgarwalder Shwarzhanden im really interested in seeing this take off. Players who are interested in combat but that want to fight the good fight and not necesarilly be part of any town except for alliance could hopefully be interested. Basically Nomadic Ranging/Combat SPecialists helping those in need and heelping to forge new alliances.

Waiting warmly for the inevitable private server that will be up in the next week (confirmed) using the superior old art style and not charging outlandish prices for a buggy, laggy, down 60% of the time java mess.
You could have made this a one time payment and nobody would have bat an eye, but in a game where you spend the majority of your time waiting, doing nothing, for a curiosity to finish researching so you can buy much needed skills, there's no way I'm paying any amount of monthly charges. It isn't fucking happening.
Talk about a fuck up to top all other fuck ups.
Gonna piss myself with laughter when the initial free test period is up and that userbase plummets to double digits.

So what is it that you are angry about? The fact that we aren't giving you the game for free?ancara23 wrote:Jorb, I'm just going to speak up for a ton of people who I know are either lurking here or are getting truly angered over recent events here. Seems like a strange thing to be upset over.

6$ a month? As in a 6$ for a month of unlimited game time? I didn't see that in the store, however, that seems like a mighty reasonable price.jorb wrote:The game can be had for as little as $6/mo.Apocoreo wrote:I would sure as hell shell out for some cosmetics, my naked dude is terrifying. If you subscribe for a year that is the price you pay per month, indeed.Virulentation wrote:6$ a month? As in a 6$ for a month of unlimited game time? no its strange you would charge so much for a game thats not even near as polished as old HnH and that currently no one really knows how to playjorb wrote:So what is it that you are angry about?
