Is there anyway to kill someone without having to drop their defense to a very low lvl?

Not really. In terms of sci-fi starship, the defense meter is the shield, and the HP is the hull.

How do unarmed/melee and strength contribute to the damage done in combat? Most things that I read suggest that damage depends solely on strength (and the properties of the weapon, if any), but are somehow nebulously affected by the combat skill level (Ie strangle uses 80% of your unarmed). I've never noticed any punch missing their target, but I could be wrong.

Is is that the skill determines how much you deplete your opponents defense meter, while strength determines how much damage you do after their defense meter is gone?

thanks for the help.

Funny enough we tested that out a week less ago.

UA/Melee determines how much defense you take off as well as reducing the reduction to your defense as well. UA/Melee does not directly increase the damage dealt. However, because UA/Melee increases the amount of defense taken off, it does indirect raise the damage by ensuring more of the percentage of the damage goes through.

The bonus damage from strength scales with the weapon you are using (ex. more bonus from q90 soldier sword than q10 axe) and has a diminishing return (the more strength you have, the less bonus you get from additional strength). Much of the damage actually comes from the weapon itself though.

A bit of input:

  • Although you show the readers how to combat each individual animals, there are some cases it may be hard for them especially dealing with the highest tier animal. Tell them what to do with particularly strong version of each if they are struggling. The level range should state that the low range is for the weakest version while the high range should be for the highest tier.
  • A FAQ is missing. Readers will have questions for you as well you questions while they are putting these knowledge to the test. Take note of the questions asked here as well as the "How do I?" and perhaps other sections of the forum if you find them.
  • A mention about armor is deserved as well as it is a buffer for people to make mistakes. The explanation of the armor system would be nice as well.
  • Consider re-reading, proofreading and polishing some of your sentence throughout the guides. A few are a bit choppy because of the constant added content.
Reaper, Reaper, that's what people call me! Why?
Cause they all die! When I sing, I end their lives

I am having trouble fighting foxes. My UA is 61 and my melee is 39. I'm using a sword and shield w/ shield maneuvre, but getting advantage on even foxes is too difficult because dash does not refill the defense bar fast enough to hold against fox attacks. Therefore I keep getting hit and gaining advantage becomes impossible.

You should use Dodge instead of Shield, since your UA is higher than your melee.

Okay, that works a lot better. Should I switch over to shield when my melee is equal or over my UA?
