I think it'd be nifty for cooking. Let's say I want to make some bread, pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. Craft all would end up using too much stuff for one product. Sure, I can just take no more flour than I need for one set of doughs, but it's more comfortable to open that cupboard just once.

Speaking of which, what if you could use tables and stuff for crafting? So you don't even need to transfer the mats to your inventory in the first place, you just use whatever is available.

Crafting tables are something that I've thought a great deal about. They could have slots for useful tools that we can't really justify having as equipment as well. :)

like an automatic "take that stuff out of the cupboard, make it, put it right back in that cupboard, shits done" type deal sounds simple enough for players to quickly pick up on

or a more complicated way would be to extend the symbel table from dining-only to crafting in general...
merge symbel tables and herb tables into a single object, its purpose and benefits defined by what tools the player places on it. Ex. herbs could have things like jars, a mortal and pestle, etc.

I definitely like the idea of Table just being more generic and working as a tooltable as well (perhaps being modular? eh? eh? put 2 tables together and get a tool 'bench'? eh? eh?) but I really like the Herbalist table 'as is', it's one of the things I think doesn't need any change really.

+1 for a symbel-table like workbench/generic table. It would be fun to see rolling pins and scrapers and knives and sieves as tools that would be added just like the symbel items, and they'd let you do various things like baking, crafting, hide preparation, etc. Maybe depending on what tools you have loaded in the table, that would determine what options show up on a flower menu? And those options would operate on whatever applicable materials are in the lower "inventory" of the table.

D1G's idea of linked workbenches would be SWEET in that case! Load your tools into one table, and load all of the linked tables up with materials, etc. etc.

Hell yeah I'd love seeing some of those tools I'm tired of all foods just using 'cauldron', I don't make salad in a cauldron :x
