Q90 Bow and Deer

Postby ElricSorrow » Sat Apr 30, 2011 1:08 pm

Does anyone know what would be a good perception for 1 shotting deer with a quality 90 bow?

im pretty damn sure ur perception wont matter much. i was 1 shotting deer with 30 percep and a q40 bow in world 4, im sure you could do it with like 15 percep.

i am pretty sure the person above me knows nothing about mm.

"The minimum damage is calculated from your own perception, the target's agility and the maximum damage as (0.5 * (PERC / AGIL) * MAX-DAMAGE)."

thats a qoute from the wiki. what agi do deers have? fuck if i know. assume 150 to be on the high end and adjust accordingly

60-90 seems to be reliable for my hunter. Pretty sure he's using a Q90ish bow.

And don't forget arrow quality!

I onehitted 2 deers in a row with a q23 Bow, Bone arrows and maybe 30 perception. So with a q90 bow 10 perception should be enough ;)

Question is, if you want to know if you'll be able to one hit them all the time or just randomly.

does nobody fucking read what i wrote?

perception determines MINIMUM DAMAGE. meaning if you don't have enough you know the RNG will screw you with nice 3 damage hits... yaaaay!

Skip to the bottom for the answer, or read the entire post to understand the mechanics.

To clear this up since people seem to be missing the point:

A high Q bow raises the max damage
A high lvl per raises the min damage.

If you get lucky, you can one shot a deer with a Q23 bow (165dmg) and Q40 bone arrows (40dmg). However, that is indeed becoming *lucky*. Here's why:

Min damage = 0.5 * (Shooter's Per / Target's Agi) * Max Damage

This is where perception comes in. With twice the perception of your targets agility, you will always hit for max damage, always. This would let you one shot a deer EVERY shot with a Q23 bow and Q40 arrows (ignoring the horrendous aiming speed).

Basing some very rough calculations off my hunter this is what I get for a deer's agi:

60 = 0.5 * (60 / Deer Agi) * 400
0.3 = (60 / Deer Agi)
Deer Agi = 60/0.3
Deer Agi = 200

There's a bunch of rounding involved, but 200 seems like a logical number for a deer's agi, and it would be close at the very least. Now since we're hunting deer with a Q90 bow, we know we're going to want decent ammo. Lets say you did the dirty with deer bones, and have the lvl 100 survival to get max Q bones. This will get us Q55 arrows. Don't forget all Q bonuses are auto rounded down.

Max damage = 110 * sqrt(90/10) + 20 * sqrt(55/10)
Max damage = 330 + 46
Max damage = 376

We want min damage to = 200 to insta kill a deer always.

Min damage = 0.5 * (Shooter's Per / Target's Agi) * Max Damage
200 = 0.5 * (Shooter's Per / 200) * 376
1.06 = Shooter's Per / 200
Shooter's Per = 213

That's for the guarenteed one shot. But lets be realistic here, a 75% one shot rate is probably good enough. For that we need a min damage of 141.

141 = 0.5 * (Shooter's Per / 200) * 376
Shooter's Per = 150

Summary

Getting a really high one shot rate is unlikely on deer for a while without destroying your other stats for perception. Even at lvl 10 Per though, you get very close to a 50% one shot rate with a Q90 bow. There is no ideal Perception until you have 200, so more is just better up until that point. Easiest way to compensate in the short term is higher MM so you can shoot 2-3 shots in a shorter time period. Pay attention to arrow Q capping your aiming speed though.
