That's dead on, you can't actually make a difference in WoW. In H&H you can literally change the face of the world. There are many reasons I play H&H, but I'll just list one that I think is significantly unique compared to other games...
I love how in this game people's "homes" are so uniquely built. You stumble across some ruins and see the kiln placed here, cabin there, containers over there. Someone put all those things there on purpose... for a reason. They lived here and walked to these items every day. They're probably where they are out of convenience, strategy, accident, or aesthetics. Villages aren't all identical and they often show signs of bad planning and such. It's very interesting. I love to see a small plot with a very efficient design or giggle at some horrific misplacement.
In most games things are where they are because a world builder stuck them there. Sometimes you say, "Oh cute, there's even a table and chairs here as if someone actually lived in this place." But nobody really uses those chairs, and nobody cares if the chests are in convenient places. Why the fuck is the forge here, now I have to walk all the fucking way from the bank and back??? It's all so artificial and once you see the same farmhouse for the 20th time it's just so bland.
Organically built world = thumbs up.
