Rabbits, Chickens, and Other Mythical Creatures

Postby ImAwesome » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:25 pm

I've been playing this game for about 2 days now, and I really need a bone to advance any farther. I've seen a few foxes, 2 boars(1 walking over my hearth fire), and a deer; but the only rabbit I've seen ran through a fence and up a hill before I could grab it. Is there an easier way to get a bone?

All the threads I read seem to mention looking near a river for rabbits, but the only water near me is a small lake and most of it is owned by a player. I've walked around my start area, and out in each direction exploring...I need advice :?

Grasslands are the best place to look for chickens and rabbits

I know what you mean. It's very hard to find something when you need it. This is probably unrelated and just a coincidence but I noticed that when I raised my Exploration/Perception I ran into rabbits and other animals more often.

:( haven't found a grassland yet, and yea it seems the only thing that can easilly be found in the area I started are bones of dead people...it won't let me use those

I have a few spare LP I was saving for boatmaking, but no boat without planks so might as well invest, thanks both of you

edit: found a rabbit within 5 minutes of increasing exploration, guess that does have something to do with it. thanks again

Not really. Animals are seen no matter your exploration score.

Are you using Ender's yet? If not, you can get it from here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=14575

It takes a bit to get set up for some people, others seem to just download and it goes just fine. With this client, you can hide trees, walls, plants, and rocks, turn on night vision, get a larger window to play in, and other nice little things missing from the basic client.

that doesn't seem to want to work for me...but since this topic was about rabbits I have a question about drying rabbit fur: the wiki says 8 hours and I see the circle when I check them, but is there a way to check about how much time is left on items when you aren't looking at the wiki? I'm used to clicking things to check them and 1 of my furs started over when I clicked it(guess it thought I was removing it from the rack)

The only way to check how much time you have left on a drying item is the white circle that appears over the hide. Now if you want specific time I can't help you there. Also, while we're on the subject of hides: any recipe that calls for a hide and shows a large dried cow hide is misleading you. Any hide can be used. So you can have a nice waterskin that holds 3.0l of water by making it with a dried rabbit skin, among other things.

I forget if the default client shows percentages, but you can just take the full time and multiply it by the percentage. (Ex. 65% on a 8 hour long timer. 8 * .65 = 5.2 hour elapsed or 8 * .35 = 2.8 hours to go.)

Don't chase rabbits (or chickens): walk right up to them, then right click. If done right, they shouldn't get a chance to run.
