Races

Postby btaylor » Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:19 am

I was playing Neverwinter Nights 2 and the idea hit me, "Why don't we have races in H&H?" Just to give the game world a little diversity. There doesn't have to be HUGE DRAMATIC CHANGES involved. For example:

The Elf race. They could have the same body sprite as we do now, just have long pointy ears. Plus they can also see better in the dark than humans. That could be one advantage of playing as an Elf. Of course if they had this advantage there has to be a trade-off so that everyone doesn't just make Elves. For example, they could be weaker in some way such as constitution or strength. What does everyone think? Interesting right?

No, because this is not a fantasy but realistic medieval game.

Just dont build a wind sword please(or skill hearth magic!) :)

I'm sorry. I was under the impression, and I quote the About page, that this was "set in a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myth and legend."

I'm pretty positive they had Elf-type creatures in myths and legends.

Okay so maybe "Elf" was a bad example race. I don't feel like looking up the different creatures of Germanic and Slavic descent, just throwing out ideas to give the game a bit more diversity.

You could have some differences based on cultures, as opposed to race. For example, you could have the Slavs, the Finns, and the Nords, which from their culteral background have predispositions towards things like combat, building, and survival or farming.
Different cultures could also offer different starting gear, maybe. Some could start with linen shirts, some start with cowhide tunics, etc. Or even just hats...hunter-culture types start with hats that give a slight bonus to combat, farming culture types start with straw hats...That would make the player base a bit more varied, especially among newbies, without getting into a racial controversy or adding elements that dont fit the games feel.
