It will be impossible for you to get a competitive edge, but it is still a fun experience.

For combat this is true, but in terms of getting the levels of stuff up it really isn't much of an issue as you can trade for pretty much everything you need to get going - there are also a lot of mid-level nodes in this world, finding q 40-50 water and reasonable soil is easy (you might have more difficulty if you want really top end resources but if you can buy some reasonable crops, particularly hemp, then these aren't necessary anyway). The best clay is now made using the bones of level 300+ chickens to make bone clay, if you are lucky enough to find a q50+ stone node then you can manufacture better clay than you can dig up anyway.

There aren't many active players atm and finding a village to join with people who have any idea of what they are doing would be difficult, particularly as those that are set up might not freely trust new joiners (although I think eemerald posting asking for employees and that would prob be a good village to join..)

But anyway, lag is better and there is fun to be had even if you do end up on the end of a soldiers sword - oh and one other thing, a lot of people have been getting this wrong, do not even think about building a palisade if you are going to solo, alt-vault your stuff until you can build a brick wall, the majority of the players still playing can pali-bash now, its just a way of saying 'hey guys, I think I have some things you might want to steal'.

Just buying some of the better items is enough. Sure, no one is going to sell you the highest quality items but you can probably get some q400 seeds and other things that would otherwise have taken a long time. You can be pretty competitive if you're clever.
