People will kill you because, 1) you're getting curiosities/resources that they think rightfully belong to them and 2) there's nothing better to do after you bot every other task in the game other then doing some villainy.

All wrong. People kill because they can. Finding good loot is just a bonus. Not everyone bots, you know.

fixed it for you - there are enough ppl in HnH that know how to fight and thus don't need ego boosts by killing "nonfighters"

Carry around two buckets of water and a waterskin, that helped me escape would-be newbieslayers 3 times already.
Boat chases = you're on equal "footing" due to the same boat speed 1:1 escape success ratio

Land chases are a different story, if you're lucky enough they won't have the will to chase you after you run to the forest, they might not have hotkeyed waterskin/flasks, they might lack running+drinking at the same time proficiency, and are extremely unlikely to carry around more than 1 bucket. 3:1 escape success ratio imho
