Mining

Postby jmazz » Wed Jul 17, 2013 8:33 am

When I mine I use supports but it is tempting to use zigzag or diagonal mining when trying to cross from one cave to another cave which can be seen on the minimap but is not connected. Especially if you are a long way from the nuggets needed to make supports because you are exploring a cave for the first time.
I have had more cave-ins in W7 in the last month than the 3 month I spent in W6 (I'm new).
Can anyone tell me if cave-ins has changed in W7.
Are there any character attributes/skills or stone/ore/hardness Q attribute which affects cave-ins or injury due to cave-ins or is it random.

Jmazz - ZigZag technique has been completely wiped out, also straight mining is away, you HAVE to place a mining support next to the tile you want to mine, except if the tile is right next to a cave floor (has to be adjacent)

Thanks for the quick reply Zachery09.
I am not sure you are correct. I have been hit by cave-ins mining from the cave floor to the 1st tile at least twice in W7. Some rocks fell on the cave floor. I didn't die but was knocked out (so 100+ damage). So I guess the question is was I very lucky or very unlucky?

You were very unlucky, and Zachary told you a false fact: There's absolutely always a chance for a cavein, whatever tile you're mining. Ask someone to build a support for you then go for it?

I have tested on cave tiles adjacent to floor with Oen, and he can confirm that when standing on a cave tile chipping a cave wall there is 0% chance of a cave-ins appearing.
If there would be 100% chance on a cavein appearing, noone would have had metal early in the world because it would be simply too dangerous to loose your str alt / main.

There is a small chance of a cave-in when mining that first tile in a cave Zach. Your testing was flawed.

Ive had it happen to me, and if you doubt my word search through the simple question thread. Several others have reported the same.

Zach Ithink you misunderstood; I didn't mean absolutely a chance as 100% chance, I meant I'm certain there's SOME chance.

Mining

Postby Sevenless » Wed Jul 17, 2013 4:42 pm

I'd guess if you mined out 100 tiles (seperate from each other) there'd be about 1 collapse.

Rare, but it's happened twice in my village alone.
