Auroach Won't Break Leash

Postby carson330 » Thu Feb 12, 2015 10:45 pm

I've been sitting here trying to tame an Auroach. I used quell the beast once successfully on it and began the waiting process. It's been over an hour now and it hasn't attempted to break the leash so I can use quell again. I never attacked it once or did any damage to it the wait is really annoying at this point.

Should I get the combat intensity to 10 to maybe speed up the chance of it attacking me?

Have you see the "pro tricks" to taming wild animals? You should keep at least one more animal alive than you plan on taming so that you can walk away from combat and come back to attack the one you don't plan on taming. All will aggro you immediately again, including the one you're trying to tame. It takes about 15-20 minutes total to tame per animal instead of an hour or more.

Otherwise, the aggro timer can get wonky. My understanding of the system is that it's on an RNG that checks so often, and it can go quite a while before actually attacking again.

Yeah, the taming part is annoying but it can be easy with the right knowledge and loop holes that you can do. :)

Like what magic said keep a extra animal to agro on you so it will go quickly... or you could just harvest four leaf clovers all day and feed the to untamed creators and kill them for meat and wool... but that is a more lengthy and you get horrible quality most of the time.

So I would stick with what magic says... he knows his stuff :P

MagicMan that helps a lot. My problem currently is that when I walk away and disengage combat, I come back to do the whole process again and it goes back down to 20 tameness. It keeps losing all of its tameness. All I'm doing is coming back and using Call Down Thunder on the other herd member and have them all aggro me. But still, back down to only 20 Tameness. Got it up to 40 once, can't get it to happen again.

Edit:
I have to rebuild my initiative and combat advantage every time I come back, maybe that i'm aggroing it's pushing my tameness back down.

Have you tried boxing in most of the herd farther away from the animal you are taming?

Well, if you don't do this, they will all aggro, and unless you have a LOT of points in Unarmed Combat, you're going to get ran over and turned into a hearthling pancake by the resulting stampede. The good news: aurochsen and mouflon can't break simple construction signs. The bad news is, they like to move around, so it's hard to get the herd boxed in and separated if they aren't near the water (using the shallow water and edge of land as a wall the animals can't cross.)

Luckily, there's a good video guide for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0XX9m6T1WQ It covers all the basics, so you probably already know some of it.

If you aggro the animal you attempt to tame, it will reset the taming counter, and can bug up the process preventing that animal from ever going tame.

It's been a while since I've really sat down and played and set up a new place, so someone correct me if I'm wrong... If I recall right (and memory is really fuzzy on this), the taming counter doesn't track properly if you use the "wander away" tactic to break combat and the animal leaves the screen. It's a display bug, but the animal is still getting tame, and if you do everything correctly, it should only take using "Quell the Beast" five times. (this is in response to the PM I got)

In terms of Re-aggroing the animal you have to tame, that's what you have to do right? Every time I use quell the beast my initiative goes to 0 my combat advantage goes to 0 and I have to build those back up to use Quell again... At Least I think you're supposed to build them back up to use quell again. In the process of building those back up I have to re-aggro it with call down thunder and all of those shenanigans.

As for fencing, I do fence in the entire heard while I have the one I'm trying to tame separate. Should the herd be a significant distance away from me so I can de-aggro the herd while maintaining aggro on the targeted Auroach?

Also, side note: De-aggroing happens when the Pictures in the upper-left disappear (first are question marks and then they disappear) right?

Thank you for all of this help, this has been a huge pain for me and the help is great.

EDIT: you don't need all but one frames to disappear, it's ok if they all disappear but just don't walk too far away.
