Yeah they ended up dying hahah. The reason I asked is because me and my friend jut started playing a few days ago and werent able to make a chicken coop yet, so they were just in a box. Thanks for the replies tho.

P.s. We did find some wheat seeds so just waiting on them to grow.

Yep. Really. they probably fly over but the graphic dont allow us to see it

They can only run through walls when they are aggroed, if you just drop them they won't go throught he walls until you try to pick them up (which if you are standing close enough and have enough inventory space you will never fail to do), if you attack them and miss then they can run through walls.

If aggroed I know they go through walls. If not they can as well. It much more rare as they tend to only hop about their own area but they can. I had some go through a palisade wall last world, and had to chase them down.
