How do I harvest crops without seeds stacking?

Postby LaserSaysPew » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:37 pm

How do I harvest crops without seeds stacking and thus averaging quality all the time? Am I supposed to harvest a crop and then go and place seeds somewhere for each single harvest?

That's the best I can offer right now, at least. How would you like it to work?

Seed 'stacks' could act like a quiver in which each individual seed has it's own quality, and you can right click-open a stack so that if you want to micro-manage it would allow you to pick out only the very best seeds each time?

Maybe we can harvest them into a bucket? Since a bucket is used for sowing if I remember correctly.

You could click out the seeds you don't want, and then use the bucket to sow the field.

How would that prevent the seeds from blending?

Upon filling your bucket the HEarthling sits down after his back-breaking work. He then begins to arefully inspect each and every last seed, down to the last 5,000, for quality assurance.

This is how beer is made. Some of the better breweries hand sort the hops. :/ It doesn't take that long - though you're not looking at quality as much as you're simply looking for a representation of what you want, i.e length of the seed or w/e you're sorting for.

Man I'm sleep deprived.

I'm not at that stage, but in my mind the bucket was an inventory like the quiver. Extra large. The seeds don't need to blend automatically if you have a specialized seed inventory. In retrospect, I realize the bucket probably contains a single seed stack so clearly this wouldn't work without the implementation of a sower's sack or something.

In general I don't think seeds should blend at all as a default option. Maybe give a right click option to combine all in inventory or something. It's not exactly perfect UI, but having to stop between each plant harvested is the worse devil there. That prevents you entirely from using the new harvest area feature. Even if plants increase in quality after the blend, it'd still be more optimal to sort.

What was wrong with the legacy system? What is the purpose of multiplying seeds' number by 5?
