The wildlife in Haven is somewhat lacking, but it seems Jorbtar wants to change that. I think we should have more varieties of Fowl in the game, here are some ideas:
Peacock - Uncommon/rare - Found roaming on the ground. If butchered immediately you would get Mundane Peacock meat, you could hang the dead bird on a drying rack for a period of time to improve its flavor and quality, getting Prime Peacock meat instead. The Peacock would also give up to 5 peacock feathers upon plucking, they could be used for all sorts of curiosities, decorative clothing, decorative furnishings, etc. Mundane Pecock meat could give +dex while Prime Peacock meat could give +int +cha.
Goose - Common - Found flying, or floating in shallow water. Similar to chickens you would simply get meat and feathers for plucking/butchering. Meat could give +con.
Pigeon/Dove - Uncommon - Found flying. Could be plucked/butchered similar to chickens, the meat could give +per.
Note: Another cool idea, carrier pigeons. Could send messages written on paper to players across the world via their Hearth Secret. The player could build a personal pigeon coop and domesticate them, then attach the message and let them fly off; the pigeon would then just enter the receivers coop and wait to be interacted with.
Swan - Rare - Found swimming in shallow/deep water. Similar to the Peacock, the Swan would give good quality meat and feathers to be used in curiosities and decorations. Meat could give +dex +int.
Crane - Uncommon - Found in shallow water (Near active fish source?). Gives feathers and meat. Meat gives +agi
Heron - Uncommon - Found in shallow water (Near active fish source?). Gives Heron feathers and meat. Meat gives +dex
Duck - Common - Found in shallow/deep water. Chicken of the lakes. Meat gives +con.
Quail - Common - Found in groups on plains. Gives meat and feathers when butchered. Meat gives +agi.
Crow - Uncommon - Found around mountains, would give crow feathers and crow meat when butchered. Could give crow talon when butchered? The meat could work like Rat on a stick and randomly deal HHP damage when eaten. Meat could give +psy.
Falcon - Rare - Found flying. Aggressive bird, would need to be tamed. If butchered it would give meat and feathers. Meat could give +per. (See Falconry)
Mouse - Uncommon - Found on the ground in small groups, as small as chicks but as fast as rabbits, they are a bit of a nuisance but could be used as food for larger animals such as the falcon. Mouse meat could give +agi.
If anyone would like to toss in some cooking recipes please do so, I don't know enough about food preparation to know what to use these birds for.
A few items related to these ideas:
Feather headress - Cosmetic head-slot. uses peacock or swan feathers and string
Crow talisman - Functional necklace-slot. Could give +psy
Fowl cloak - cosmetic, back slot. Just a cape made of feathers.
Falconry Glove - functional, tool slot. Required to equip a Falcon.
Snare - Crafted - Placed in a bush, uses string and sticks. Success rate: Low - Chance of breaking after use 80%
Box Trap - Crafted - Placed in a bush, uses sticks and boards. Success rate: Medium - Chance of breaking after use 65% Note: Possibly place traps in hollow logs/stumps?
Deadfall Trap - Crafted - Placed in a bush, uses stone and rope. Success rate: High - Chance of breaking after use 45%
Pigeon coop - Built - Using blocks, boards, rope, and boughs. Can house up to 8 pigeons. Seeds can be placed in the coop to ensure your pigeons do not die of starvation. Quality could possibly affect the timeliness of the pigeons delivery?
New Skill - Falconry
After taming a Falcon, one can fashion a falconry glove and bring the falcon on hunting or foraging expeditions, the falcon could be used to grab forageables from afar as well as attacking small animals (possibly ranging from chicks to badgers.)
I would think the Falcon would have it's own hp and stamina and would require food and tire after use. It could be housed on a perch, or a cage of some-sort. Animals that attack could deal damage to an attacking falcon, potentially killing it if its hp is low enough. Falcon quality could directly affect the quality of the slain animal or foraged item. Falcon quality could be affected by the quality of food given to it.
New Skill - Trapping
Since we now have actual bushes, we could craft traps to place in said bushes to catch small game. Types of traps t include would be snares, deadfall traps and box traps, all of which could be placed inside bushes.
Here's the kicker, while placed in a bush they cannot be seen, but can when an animal is trapped. The captured animal is fair game to any passer-by. So traps would have to be monitored by the hunter to ensure his food isn't stolen. The traps would show up on the mini-map of the hunter only, so he/she doesn't forget where they are. I would think the traps would spring randomly as long as they were out of sight of a player, instead of waiting for an animal to arrive. This could lead to players having the need to claim their hunting grounds.
New Skill - Carrier Pigeons
As said above, could use the pigeon/dove to send written messages to other players around the world, the distance would affect the timing of the message. Would require a pigeon coop, at least one pigeon, and a written message on paper. Player would attach the message to the pigeon then enter in the receivers Hearth Secret, when dropped, the pigeon would fly directly to the receivers pigeon coop and wait until interacted with. At this point the receiver can decide whether to send the pigeon back, or keep it for himself.
I know using chat services and the forums is easier, but I think this would be a very cool and unique addition to the game.
I'll edit this as new ideas come to me.
