Any downsides i missed?

Btw walls: what about wider gates?

I agree, it can just inherit soak.
If new fresh brickwall have 0 soak, then overbuilded over palisade brickwall will have this palisade soak, what rise over time to cap. That's fair.

why not let it be layered but be separate? if someone attacks it before soak it comes off easy then they have to deal with fully soaked pali or whatever

In case the brichwall inherits the current palidsade soak on upgrade they'll have to deal with it in the first place.

Why not just make it something you dont have the option to do unless it's your claim? Since it's something you worry about that would be a drawback of a great idea, just remove the thought of it from the game?

What if there's people living on the claim of someone who quit? It's not overly unheard of, and those people would lose access to the upgrade feature.

I'm not saying that's a deathblow or anything to the idea, but even that suggestion isn't issue free.

I don't think upgraded walls should be treated as old walls.

HOWEVER, if an upgraded wall is torn down during the 'grace' period, it should return to an 'Old' Palisade.

Make the upgrade cost 50% more brick and "encapsulate" the old palisade. The soak of the upgraded BW starts at 0 but if torn down before full soak it reverts to the inner core palisade wall.

Seems like an awesome idea for those of us who have very little room to build BW around palisade due to cliffs and water etc.
