Early game improvement suggestions

Postby RickyP602 » Fri Sep 18, 2015 9:08 am

Hello,

Thanks for the game and the speed at which it is updated, it's great seeing this place active once again!

I got a couple of suggestions for improving the early game.

1) It would be nice if you lowered the perc*explo for some of the early game forageables. I find that even after a few hours of playing I still was rarely finding anything to pick up. Take stinging nettle for example, it's great for your first set of clothes, however, it took like 4 hours to get enough to make my first full set. I don't think it would really change the game balance for there to be more stuff for newbies to just click. It gets boring walking around finding something like once every 5 minutes at first.

2) Also it might be a worth while idea to lower the sheer amount of stamina required to cut down a tree, you need like 3 full bars with a stone axe.

Thanks,

Ricky

You're not meant to chop all trees on world in first day of gameplay. Chopping trees should be as it is, very stamina consuming act.

I did not imply any such thing, nor did I say that chopping trees should not be a stamina intensive task. However, I think it may be a bit much for new characters with a kuska.

Well, at least chopped trees provide more boards and blocks now than in HnH1

The tree chopping is intended so that fresh spawns can't grief. We've had a lot of issues with that in the past. Beginners should just cut down trees near water.

As to the forageable comment: Agreed. Or perhaps make add a couple new beginner things that are 100% visible? The world feels really empty as a starting player and that's not exactly fun.

Stupid suggestions, just casualizations and nerfs to make stuff easier, completely unnecessary. I have one thing to say: L2play.

Disagree entirely about that. Tree chopping is punishing intentionally, so not knowing the reason makes sense to want to complain. And I've always hated how empty the world feels when you have 1*10 exp*per score. Adding in, or reworking the lowbie forageables like taproot and nettle would make the world feel less dead to beginners.

Of course, if those were reworked I'd want to see more forageables added to fill in the spots they would vacate.

It's actually kind of empty even at higher per*exp levels...
