Player versus player is not only in combat,
but also those that are competitively raising
their crafting skills to beat your equipment.
The combat related player versus player is,
in a way, a good system because there's the
brave hearthlings that run bare chested at
a crowd of fully armored killers.... annnd
there's the Veterans who only start fights
that they have an advantage in, usually more
than one fighter versus a group of crafters.

My peaceful farmer then becomes as much a threat to the raider as the "high level fighter" character. That would certainly change the dynamic of the game. Would that result in more "real" PvP, or less?

Yea, it would definately result in more real PvP because every highlevel fighter that has 20mio lp wants to lose his char to a freshly made farmer alt!

that these sort of grinded characters even exist is a bad thing. how many are really going to want a good straight up fight when theres that much on the line

you think PvP must be universal

Which reminds me, how does Wurm handle that? Is PvP universal? Can you dick around all you want? Is there some other system?

From what I understand they do a lot of policing. I've never played it though so it's deduction from second hand information. Maybe del can chime in here.

I'd just be happy with walls that can't be broken down with bear hands / single person with a tool in < 1 RL day and making it so people can't shoot arrows at you through a wall.

"air is free" douche baggery theoretically only happens off claim, so once you've set yourself up / joined a village it's not a problem.
The exploits that involve surrounding someone and shooting them with arrows a -> requires more coordination than I believe possible and b -> does not impact people who don't want to play pvp.

Trades can be conducted on claimed ground using party / access privileges.

Basically I think it would be a problem for new players and those not in villages and that's about it, particularly if village management was expanded so that bozo's could be evicted from village grounds and banned.

Having said all that, I am not at all in favor of it. It would be quite a different game, I just wanted to point out that while making the switch to non universal PvP would definitely come with its own set of issues, said issues are largely solvable and it is not at all impossible as the PvP advocates seem to be suggesting.

I think for the most part it's J&L wanting to simulate real world interactions where you do indeed get assholes every now and again, and the solution is to either ignore them, walk away, or punch the buggers in the face.

Thirded, however from previous responses the Dev's don't seem to agree that it's a problem.

Allow people to walk on top of walls, where they can shoot down but can't be shot easily, and stop people shooting over walls accurately. However I gather this would require big changes to the engine, as per the discussion on bridges.

Point taken, however I was referring to 1v1, and if the wall is high enough to block LoS from the firers perspective, hitting a target on the other side should be virtually impossible.
