Bears agro radius.

Postby CaptainMidget » Tue Sep 22, 2015 8:18 am

Ill keep this short, I feel completely underwhelmed by the agro radius of a bear. Bears sense of smell is one of the strongest in the animal kingdom; 7 times greater then a bloodhound.

Does anyone else feel that they are also underwhelmed by a bear? Sure, they are dangerous, but I can walk right by one with no problem. Discuss.

most bears arent actually all that agressive. soo, its not uncommon to pass one with you noticing it, and it not attacking you..

As much as Id agree with you on that, if certain conditions are met the bear would easily attack. Especially if the person had food.

We should have the option to climb trees if agro'd by an animal, it only makes sense.

i do think animals should be able to smell if you have food in your inventory, or raw meat.
it would be fun to use that as a bait too.

i feel like badgers always "smell" me because they always walk my direction when i'm trying to cross them and i end up having to run to not risk getting aggro.
and one of those fuckers aggrod me from pretty far away once, so now i immediately just walk the other way when i see them on my minimap.
boars and bears seem more stupid.

Aggro radius is entirely determined by your walk speed, and even then it's a bit chance based. Try sprinting near a bear, you'll see the radius is not small at all.

Some refinements on aggro mechanics would be ok I guess, but ultimately the mobs you find wandering around in the wild shouldn't be impossible to avoid. Formidable to fight sure, but beginners need some option to deal with them.

Are you sure on the walk speed thing? I can run, sprint or crawl right next to a bat and not be attacked. Bats seem incredible stupid for an animal that prides itsself on sonic hearing.

Confirmation bias flows through this game like water over Niagara Falls.
