There are already log stockpiles in a sense, just place several logs near each other.

It's not exactly "easy" because stockpiles don't hold container objects perhaps? Coding can be kind of picky about that.

What about a storage yard building that has inventory slots like a wagon does for liftables?

Amusing that the engine was made 3D without the ability to stack things in the "up" dimension. Hehe.
