Just how exactly do you propose to perform such trades in the current state the world is in right now?

You going to walk the whole map carrying the goods?

Doesn´t sound safe or efficient, and would probrably be a major exposure threat to the village winch might get targeted by raiders.

There is a reason why every village is focusing on their own resources rather than try to cooperate with other villages to trade, it is just not practical withount the crossroad system.

The road network could fill in the gap, but that mechanic needs some more intrinsic protections before it'll be worth building.

Exactly, the way it is now it is a considerable safety hazard to any village that uses it.

Maybe with some work it could turn into a pretty effective system, but it is pretty lacky at this point.
