I had a new siege-related idea that might make sieges more feasible and more fun for everyone involved. The goal of my idea was that the defenders should be able to respond to sieges more efficiently. I would accomplish this by introducing a new item called a Siege Flag.
Siege Flag
*A flag that looks kind of like the "Survey Land" flag.
*Doesn't block pathing
*Can be built pretty much anywhere
*Indestructible for 3 in game days and 30 minutes after building
*After the 3 in game days expire, the flag goes into "Build Mode" for 30 minutes before dissappearing
*During the Build Mode, Battering Rams can be built in an area around the Siege Flag. The area will
correspond roughly to the radius of a stone pillar. The idea is that Battering Rams can only be
built in the area of a Siege Flag thats in "Build Mode"
*The Siege Flag is still indestructible during the "Build Mode".
*The ram will not require a Drying Period, it can be used right away.
*If the Build period expires and no battering rams are built, a Vandalism scent will be left by the siege flag's constructor
*The flag will visually indicate the remaining time (Both the initial 24 hours and the remaining "Build Mode" time.)
Problems with siege right now:
*Rams take in game 3 days to dry. The sieging force can not possibly guard the ram for 24 consecutive hours.
*Making the ram indestructible during its drying time could lead to exploits.
The siege flag idea provides a solution to these problems. By having the siege flag be indestructible, the attacking force gets a chance to gather their forces for an attack during the 30 minute build mode. And during the in game 3 day "invincible period" of the Siege Flag, the defenders will get a chance to coordinate a defensive strategy. The siege flag might be abused (people building the flag and not building any rams) that's why it had the idea that it should leave a vandalism scent if no rams are built. To further reduce abuse, there could be a 1 Siege Flag-limit to each player, as well as making the siege flag cost some expensive material to build.
