More options for barrel storage

Postby Luckdemon » Thu Oct 29, 2015 5:23 am

A list of things I would like to be able to store inside barrels:

From a farming perspective, seeds are very nice, but maybe for crops that don't have a seed stage?
Carrots (too lazy to catch them at stage 3 all the time)
Beets
Pumpkins (maybe not, now that we can make wheelbarrows)
Pipeweed Leaves
Onions

Maybe other stockpile items i.e. flowers/bones?

Maybe also with the more "solid" objects in barrels, it would act similar to a stockpile just adding the items to a stack instead of combining all of their qualities like barrels currently do?

This could potentially give rise to mixing/crafting with barrels, fermenting fruit in a barrel, and other interesting concoctions. (Barrel of carrots for a rabbit lure? :D jkjk...)

imo if we have a stockpile for something, we don't need a barrel storage form for it.

I see no point in adding barrel storage to items that can be stockpiled, to be honest :P

The reason for the suggestion stemmed from some late night frustrated farming, reason being I can take a barrel of carrot seeds and dump it all into a coop or trough all at once. A stockpile of beets I cant. The alternative to this (which people seem to like better) is my other C&I thread about wheelbarrows ^^

Yes, I do like the idea of throwing wheelbarrow content directly into throughs and coops. Actually, you should go ahead and make it so that the wheelbarrow can drop its contents inside any container when right clicked, so we could (for example) easily fill chests with dirt, clay, ore... etc... So I support the wheelbarrow idea, but not this one :P Nothing personal ;)

+1 for storing hops in a barrel. Can even mix qualities if it makes things easier.

Would like to see tea be similar to pipestuff. Either require grinding, or just change it to outright to make it like flour, ashes, etc. That way it could be stored in a barrel also :)

I'd like the option to make 'bales', using any sort of string and a bulk amount of straw/leaves/what have you. That can then be carried around or loaded onto carts and wagons.

Boy, you must live in a city.

Nobody stores beets and onions in barrels. I grew up in rural eastern europe in 90's, and this is how it looked like :

Beets was tossed into piles and covered with soil. Some ventilation areas was made with some long boards, so they don't get spoiled or get some fungus. Looked like mini version of hobbits house.
Onions was weaved together and left to hang in some cool dark place.
