Game Development: Dem Feels

Postby jorb » Tue Nov 17, 2015 2:37 am

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added support for emotes, and six of them.
  • Added spear, "Boar Spear". Can be used as a melee weapon, and as a ranged weapon.
  • Added "Sting", attack to Spears and Swords.

Combat Changes
-----------------------
  • Activating fighting actions no longer interrupts other actions.
  • Punch attack weight reduced from 1 to 0.8
  • Chop is now Sweeping in addition to Striking.
  • Cleave is now Back-Handed in addition to Oppressive, and deals 1.5xDamage, rather than 2x.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Village Idols cannot be activated until 24hrs after completion.
  • Visitor buffs should now on login check whether they should persist, thus hopefully alleviating, if not fixing, this. Visitor buffs may still linger due to mounts, but fixing that is a bigger deal.
  • Initiating a combat relation with a tame animal on a claim should now be a crime of vandalism, rather than not a crime at all, as reported here.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Players should now display their names in Valhalla.
  • Greaves, shields, bows, arrows and spears should now appear in Valhalla.
  • Animals should now dehitch when slaughtered. Cape awarded to jorb.
  • Gave arrows a generic input type, fixing this.

In the Pipe
-----------------------
We came into tonight's session looking to rework the armor and damage models, and spent a good while discussing and looking into them, but were ultimately unable to arrive at an implementation we actually liked. Suffice it to say that we've noticed several things we dislike about the present models.

We have discussed and identified three major areas where we feel the game needs to improve, and where we also intend to focus the bulk of our attention in the coming months.
  • Social interactions, trade and travel. Barter stands, coins, horses and mounts, more emotes, &c.
  • Combat and siege paradigms. More to come. We may have a good lead.
  • The game needs to explain itself better. Help topics and light quest system.
So we'll be working somewhere around those things.

Enjoy!

Resubbing.

Don't get me wrong, it's not because of the amazing update. It's just because my sub ran dry earlier today :P

But don't get me wrong [2] update was great. And I love all the stuff in the pipe!

Keep it up :D

PS: Does the "aggro doesn't cancel actions" thing means that if I'm teleporting to my HF and someone attacks me, I can still vanish?
