I primarily use pumpkins to fill my troughs. I have a large pumpkin field that feeds 5 cows (2of which are pregnant) 5 sheep and 2 pigs with ease. I realise that's less animals, but its currently a piece of cake to keep them fed. just add the pumpkins to a barrel of swill, and 1 full barrel will fill half the food bar of 1 trough (1000 units).
Pumpkins are not viable for grinding animal quality, as their own quality grind is too slow to keep up with animals.
