I could perhaps be tempted to agree with this, but then the question materializes: What makes steel a challenge? I could agree that timing isn't the most fun, but what works better?
infrastructure? length of time? idk

to further clarify, the "challenge" to steel should be in making it a good quality, it shouldn't be a "challenge" to make some low quality steel for a gate or whatever. it should be an investment of resources, e.g. the crucibles themselves, the fuel, and everything that goes into wrought iron production. high quality steel requires higher investment into infrastructure because of all the points in the production chain. i'd be fine with steel taking twice as long and using twice as much fuel if it only had to be fueled every 24 hours.
